The Outcasts of Poker Flat plot
"Bret Harte's brawling epic of the frontier !"
This western follows the daily lives of various outsiders in the gold mining town of Poker Flat. The gambler John Oakhurst turns out to be a devious figure with little decency. The schoolteacher Jean Muir is still trying to find the good in Oakhurst. The Duchess Margaret Irving is a woman with a bad reputation. Ryker, who is having an affair with Cal, robbed the bank. Oakhurst, the Duchess, Ryker and Cal leave Poker Flat by stagecoach. A young couple also steps in, whose woman is pregnant. Along the way, the group is caught in a severe storm. At one point, Ryker threatens his fellow passengers with his gun, but they wonder why they should be afraid of Ryker, when they are likely to die in the storm.
