The Nebraskan plot

"If the Indians didn't get them... they'd get each other!"

It is 1867. Nebraska has become an independent state, but has not yet made permanent peace with the Sioux. Federal Scout Wade Harper's peacekeeping mission ends abruptly when Sioux chief Thundercloud is found dead with a knife in the back. The Indian Wingfoot is blamed for this. Harper and his friend 'Mac' McBride are ordered to arrest Wingfoot. Harper's efforts to exonerate the falsely accused Wingfoot are thwarted by the escape of Indian killer and soldier Reno Benton from Fort Carney, which subsequently causes a lot of trouble. Not long after, McBride, Harper, his former girlfriend Paris and her husband Ace Elliott face the siege of the remote trading post by the new belligerent Sioux chief Spotted Bear.
