Dreamy young Dale Evans has had enough of her boring job at a bus company. She suddenly departs for an unknown destination, leaving behind her betrothed Cecil Phelps and Aunt Dolly. Due to car trouble, Dale is stranded near the deserted town of El Dorado, where she meets itinerant cowboy Roy Rogers and his horse Trigger. Dale asks Roy if his horse Trigger wants to pull her car to El Dorado. In El Dorado, Dale meets old prospector Gabby Whittaker, who tells her that she looks a lot like the portrait of Kansas Kate Wiley in the Golden Nugget gambling palace. Dale tells Gabby that Kansas Kate Wiley is her grandmother. Looking back we see how Kansas Kate Wiley's life was in the better days of El Dorado.
