A young radio commentator has Gene mimicked Autrey's voice telling the ranchers to put their money into a hydraulic mining venture instead of livestock. Gene must try to mend what threatens to be wrought by the impersonator. Together with his friend, Smiley Burnette, he investigates and finds that the mining venture is a source of corruption and betrayal.
