Finally an (aussie) western bursting with originality. An American sniper is hired by a landlord to shoot aborigines, but the white landowner quickly becomes the new enemy. The aborigines replace the Indians, but on the side of the whites it is "same shit". It is especially easy to watch and feels more like an adventure film than a western. The humanitarian message about the aborigines had to be there of course, but it does not really bother you. This also has a great final part, which is sometimes missing in many other westerns. Very underrated film, together with "An Innocent Man" the best with Tom Selleck.

A bit of a formulaic work - a western with the obvious hero Thomas Magnum, pardon I mean Selleck, and his love interest Laura San Giacomo - otherwise only known from Sex Lies and Videotape I believe. And perhaps undeservedly, because she does a fine job and without hurting my eyes.

But besides that it is also quite original. The setting in Australia and the motif around the aborigines give something fresh, and the atmosphere is quite reminiscent of those lame Paul Hogan films - Crocodile Dundee and such, without it being immediately clear to me whether that is because of the place or whether it is something else.

Oh, and then we have Rickman – clearly the best actor in the entire film, and a delightful bad guy.

Good movie about an American sniper who travels to Australia for a job. A western set in Australia that is adventurous in tone and contains enough beautiful pictures of the Australian landscape. Tom Selleck and Laura San Giacomo do a nice job together and Alan Rickman does a great job as the bad guy again.
