Gene Autry won $1,000 at a rodeo. At night a bum steals the money. To make ends meet, Gene and his friend accept a job as cooks on the Triple T ranch. Another reason for this job is the beautiful Millicent Thomas, daughter of the owner. On the ranch, the cowboys have been replaced by cowgirls, because they are suspected of stealing cattle. Millicent's dog named Souvenier has a habit of stealing everything and runs into the Gypsy camp and steals a baby, basket and all. Millicent decides to take care of the baby until the parents are found. When she goes to town for a while, she asks Gene to take care of the baby. Gene assumes it's her baby. The next day, the rightful parents come to collect the baby and when Gene sees them leaving with the baby, he thinks he is dealing with kidnappers and Gene gives chase.
