Lucky Carson witnesses a horse chase by Bat Moulton and his gang on Jim Thornton. Carson decides to stay aloof, but is surprised by Thornton, who has retraced his steps via a detour. Thornton claims Carson's horse because his own horse has become too tired, but Carson's horse is so startled that it falls off a cliff, dragging Thornton into its trap. Carson rummages through Thornton's belongings and finds gold in his saddlebags. He hides the gold at the foot of a mountain and continues his journey on Thornton's horse.
