Iron Mountain Trail plot
The year is 1850. Postal detectives Rex Allen and Slim Pickens are sent to California by the Washington government to resolve a conflict between two competing stagecoach lines and speed up mail delivery. Gold has been found in California and the government therefore wants to be informed more quickly. Sam Sawyer and John Brockway damaged each other's equipment to each get mail first to the 'McCall Shipping Line', which runs mail to and from the east. Rex also gets little cooperation from Roger McCall, the owner of the McCall Shipping Line, who wants to control the mail delivery himself and plays Sawyer and Brockway against each other. McCall has his henchmen set fire to Brockway's stables, killing Brockway. McCall blames Sawyer and incites the locals of San Diego against him. However, Rex suspects McCall's first mate Orrin of the murder and plans to turn him over to the San Francisco marshal. Meanwhile, Rex is working on setting up the 'Pony Express', which should be faster than the stagecoach line and the ship link.
