After the American Civil War, Flanagan lost his memory as a result of a head injury. He is captured and taken to Dixon. He manages to flee and decides to investigate the past but discovers only sadness and violence. He was falsely accused of being a deserter by a bandit who later married his wife. He learns from Judge Kellog that the man is also out to kill him and that his ex-wife is not happy at all in her new marriage...
