Bank robber Wells, sentenced to life in prison, returns to the city after escaping and begins a reign of terror. Revenge-seeking Wells' death list includes Doctor Dean Knudson, his wife Janice, formerly married to Wells, and Jeff Baxley, whose testimony sent him to prison six years ago. Sheriff Charles Morton, who would rather have kept in touch with casino owner Joan Brady, and Deputy Sheriff Sam Freed now lead a posse that Wells must track down in the desert.
