When Julie's abusive former husband Phillip 'Phil' Westcott threatens to disclose her gambling addiction and sue her for custody of their daughter Charlotte, Julie's mother Minerva helps Hildegarde Hatton by calling her longtime boyfriend, lawyer Nathaniel 'Nate'. Paulson. Minerva, a Nevada sniper who paid Phil $10,000 to divorce her daughter, asks Nate to investigate gambling house owner Riff Daggett and find out who accused Julie of gambling addiction.
