"STEEL RAILS REPLACE BURNING LEATHER!"
Jeptha Marr built the town of Pawnee, Kansas, and set up a successful freight company there. Marr sees his income jeopardized by the arrival of a new railway, led by Stephen Bent. Marr lets his right-hand man, Gideon Skene, interfere with Bent's activities. Bent makes an unexpected move when dealing with Marr's opposition: he seduces his daughter Vinnie Marr. But the activities of the ruthless Champ Clanton, also an opponent of the arrival of the railroad, lead to an uneasy alliance between Bent and Marr.
