Ray Milland directed himself in this above-average Western. He plays a man with a lot of money in his pocket who stumbles upon the stagecoach whose occupants have been murdered. When he goes to the nearest village, he is of course suspected of the brutal robbery. He manages to hide in the house of the local sheriff [Ward Bond], who is seriously ill and is being cared for by his daughter Nadine [Mary Murphy].

The opening of the film, in which Ray Milland manages to make his character's thoughts and emotions clear to the audience without any dialogue, is particularly strong. However, the basic story is not very original, so that the initial fascination for this film quickly fades away. Entertaining, but after such a strong start I expected a slightly better end result.

The directorial debut of Ray Milland, who also plays the leading role in this western. He also received a percentage of the profits. Filming started in March 1955. Part of the movie was shot in the sand dunes outside St. George, Utah. In April 1955, the crew returned to Los Angeles.

A grim and reasonably convincing western for fans.
