Tirailleurs plot
Bakary Diallo enlists in the French army in 1917. He wants to join his seventeen-year-old son Thierno, who entered the service against his will. Together they go to the front where Thierno, as he matures, is urged by his superior to go into the heart of the battle. Meanwhile, Bakary wants nothing more than to bring his son home alive and well.

Nice war drama, but not a high flyer. The story is simple, the execution mediocre. The film itself looks quite nice, but does not live up to expectations. For a war film, it lacks exciting battle scenes and there is little action and tension. And more importantly, for a drama it still lacks an emotional release, because it fails to touch the viewer despite the dramatic story. Furthermore, the acting is fine and the film looks beautiful visually. 2.5/3.0
