The Island on Bird Street plot
Some people are born for happiness. However, that does not seem to apply to Alex, an eleven-year-old boy who has to survive in a Jewish ghetto in Poland during the Second World War. During the constant incursions of the Nazis, he takes refuge in his favorite book: Robinson Crusoe. One day disaster strikes, the Nazis invade Alex's house. He barely manages to hide, but has to watch as his father and uncle are taken away. Young Alex is left alone on the top floor of a bombed-out apartment building on Bird Street. From there he sees how other children lead normal lives outside the ghetto. Some people are born for happiness...
