Excellent war film that does not focus on a lot of gun violence or a high body count, but focuses on a fanatic bomber and his team. The Hurt Locker feels very realistic and the tension is often cut. Not just the bomb clearance itself, but also the ominous bystanders. Who is good and who is bad? The bomb could burst at any moment, literally in this case.

Jeremy Renner plays really excellent. A tough and reckless person, who slowly becomes more and more at odds with himself. The action scenes are very strong, like the sniper battle in the desert. Can be compared to Jackson's fantastic sniper battle in Saving Private Ryan. For the first time that I see the impact of an exploding bomb so well on film. Not only do thousands of stones hit the victims like bullets, the sound is also very impressive.

Fortunately, I find the America-level not too bad here, that's just inevitable in these kinds of films. Six Oscars is a lot, there are better war films that have won fewer. But definitely a good movie in its genre.

It's a nice film to the extent that this isn't really a story from A to Z, but more of a collection of scenes during a period in Iraq. Towards the end that is a bit let go, which is a shame, because that was actually the strength of this film. Those scenes themselves are decent, but they're not very exciting or impressive, just the one where they can't unleash the bomb on a man. Also attractive locations. I found Renner's character slightly irritating in the beginning, just a bit too coolboy. Only later does it turn out to be more of an adrenaline junkie (that last shot is fine as far as that is concerned), but for a long time the film isn't really about that. Now it also becomes a film with a bit too many ideas, none of which is really well developed. With choices this would probably have become a better film. 3.0*.

Plus: the constant threat, the feeling that something is going to go wrong.
Minus: too little attention for character development. The ending in particular is rather rushed and therefore unbelievable or even caricatured. In a minute or two it is indicated in three scenes why the main character can no longer settle at home. And how cliché would you like to see this family life outlined: Supermarket & consumerism, kitchen & incomprehension with partner, reading ritual & childlike innocence. Also, the conversation in the car with the sudden tears actually came out of the blue.
What had accumulated in credit disappeared like snow in the sun. Therefore, do not immediately invite to see more often.
