"The best way to resist is to survive."

Marcel Mangel was born to Anne Werzberg and Charles Mangel, a Jewish kosher butcher of Polish origin. After moving to Strasbourg in France, he discovers the world of music and theater through his father, himself a baritone, who regularly takes him to performances. When World War II breaks out, the family has to flee. In 1942 he decides to join the French Resistance and changes his name to Marcel Marceau to hide his Jewish origins. With his mime skills, he tries to survive and save the lives of Jewish orphans whose parents were murdered by the Nazis.

I'm not sure what to do with this movie. It's not that I'm bored or anything, but Jesse Eisenberg has something irritating about him (at least I think so). His way of acting has always come across as a bit forced, like he's trying too hard. I'm not really into the 'mimelarij' myself, but for comparison I looked up a few fragments of the real Marcel Marceau. Let me put it this way: Jesse does a great job but of course can never match Marcel Marceau, although he does his best
Who did come out well was Matthias Schweighöfer as 'Barbie', although in the film he sometimes knew just too well where to look and which people to look for, but that was the only thing.
The story is interesting enough and comes into its own quite well in the film and, as I said, I didn't get bored so a 3*

Biographical war drama about the role played by mime artist Marcel Marceau in rescuing Jewish orphans before his international breakthrough and how he used his acting talent to smuggle the children safely across the border into neutral Switzerland. The basic story offers few new insights, but Eisenberg is stunning in the pantomime scenes, and his chemistry with the kids is especially evident when he does the legendary act of trying to walk against the wind. Schweighöfer also deserves praise as the charismatic but ruthless Klaus Barbie who becomes embroiled in a game of cat and mouse with Marceau.

I think Vica Kerekes is fantastic, what a beautiful woman and a capable actress. Unfortunately, many of the films she acts in cannot be found. That's the pain of being famous in countries like Slovakia and Hungary, because films from these countries rarely cross national borders.

But this co-production in which she has a (too) small role, yes, can be found. This is of course due to Eisenberg who has the leading role. Unfortunately, we mainly have to look at his rotten face, while Kerekes remains a bit flat in the background. Missed opportunity but yes.

The film is also pretty decent, not super exciting and funny that Klaus Barbie comes along haha. I especially remember that scene from the 2001 movie "rat race" where a girl is constantly nagging that she wants to go to the barbie museum. And this turned out not to be a family-friendly doll museum at all.

Anyway, this film is nice, unfortunately too little Vica and not that much tension, but still fun for in between.
