L'Oro di Roma plot
During the Nazi occupation of Rome, Major Kappler instructs the Jewish members of the population to hand over 50 kg of gold within a few hours in exchange for 500 hostages. The community immediately organizes the collection of the precious metal. David, a young shoemaker, says he would like to answer this question with force and notes that many of his peers share his view. Giulia, the daughter of a Semitic teacher, is in love with a Catholic student and their marriage would exempt her from Nazi persecution. But after the gold is handed over, the Germans betray their trust by surrounding the ghetto and arresting all the Jews. Giulia chooses to be deported and voluntarily refuses to be rescued. She wants to share the same fate as her father and her friends. David, however, flees to the mountains and joins the partisans who want to take on the Nazis...
