L'Étoile du Soldat plot

September 11, 2001, French journalist Vargas learns of the attacks on the WTC in New York in Afghanistan. He immediately thinks of Nikolai. Nikolaï was a young musician who joined the Russian troops in Afghanistan in 1984. He soon witnessed inhumanities and atrocities against civilians and came to the conclusion that this war was not his. During an operation, however, he was captured by the Mujahideen and taken into the mountains. There he was left alive and slowly gained the trust of his enemies. Moreover, he became more and more sympathetic to the Afghan fighters by seeing the other side of the story.
