Found him a bit disappointing:

the repetition added little to me and actually took quite some time (with almost the same images each time). I thought the chase was very improbable and unrealistic (while on the phone...). And then the President of the United States personally steps into action, and then a sweet girl in the middle of the street with a narrow rescue, etc. etc. .

No, not a second time this...

Chase scene can't match eg Bullit, French connection, Ronin...

Boring.

Pretty dull plot. The idea of the different angles is interesting, but is actually rarely well executed. The original reference is probably Rashomon, but he doesn't take full advantage of it either.

This film mainly struggles with a very dull premise, where it doesn't even matter much how the fork is now. That's difficult, but the film plays the same fragment five times from a different point of view. That gets pretty boring pretty quickly.

It is probably painful that the action also represents very little, just like the directing in general. A couple of chase scenes, but they were of a not too high level, nothing spectacular or exciting to notice.

What's left then? Pretty fast brain-out video. Nothing less, but above all nothing more.

1.5*

Vantage Point is a thriller pur sang. Little by little you unravel with the different characters how everything works. Who shot the president? One pressing question that must be answered. Or is it just a bit different than first thought?

What makes Vantage Point so strong are the clever flashbacks from different points of view. In this way we finally arrive at the unraveling of the story. Pete Travis was an unknown director to me, but with Vantage Point he manages to leave a mark in my memory. The camera work is regularly very stylish. I've seen some beautiful close-ups and the perspective is played well. Also effective editing. All very pretty and totally my taste. It may not be the most original premise, because I suspect Shooter came up with the idea of shooting the president just a little bit earlier. What I do think is original is that it is told from multiple points of view. I can't immediately think of a similar movie where they apply this.

The actors are quite well known. Maybe not the biggest names but definitely a very nice cast for an action thriller like this. The short running time and the tempo make it an ideal film after a day at work/school.
