Nacht zonder Zegen plot

Alfred, a rather wimpy forties, spends his days at the counter of a travel agency in Amsterdam. One day in his favorite bar he meets a free-spirited young girl from the province who dreams of a trip to Mexico. She is attracted to him and although he initially behaves rather shy and defensive, a shaky love relationship gradually develops between the two. Alfred, however, carries with him the burden of the past, a past in which he once killed his wife in a fit of despair. Murder, manslaughter or accident? In any case, fate seems to haunt him once his relationship with his new girlfriend starts to get serious...
