The story is set in a post-apocalyptic America, with war veteran Gabriel Drummer (Shia LaBeouf) desperately searching for the whereabouts of his estranged son Jonathan and his wife Natalie. Together with his best friend Devin (Jai Courtney), a hard-hearted Marine whose instinct is to pull the trigger before asking questions, he intercepts a survivor in the apocalyptic world who has vital information about his family's whereabouts. . During their search, they look back at the past that led to the now war-torn America.
