Maalstroom plot

The struggling inland skipper Jan accepts an urgent load of sand from Dunkirk to Rotterdam in a last-ditch attempt to prevent his financial ruin. Shortly after departure, he discovers eleven refugees hiding in his cargo. As Jan sails north along the canals, his unwanted passengers force him to face a reality far removed from his own.
