A film about a female veterinarian (Monique v/d Ven) who settles in the countryside and has to try to carve out a place for herself there. And so we quickly get to know the most important inhabitants of the village, and she also has a pushy boyfriend who wants her back in the city. The film builds up reasonably well, but otherwise the story is only moderately developed. For example, it happens quite often that characters appear in the film who initially seem to have an important role, but who hardly appear later in the film and therefore turn out not to be that important after all. That makes the film messy and also somewhat implausible. It all comes across as a bit rushed. And even Monique van de Ven wasn't always entirely convincing, although there were some pretty beautiful scenes in it. No, this film should have been better. I give it 2.5, but it could have been even lower if I think about it longer.

Monique van de Ven plays a free-spirited woman convincing for the 80s, but by today's standards, it all feels a bit outdated. Even in the deepest countryside, I hope the idea of a female veterinarian no longer causes such childish spasms—why must a woman in every conceivable 'male profession' first undergo a sort of baptism of fire, walk the gauntlet, before anyone listens to her? Cringeworthy adolescent behavior. You wish that kind of person would get hit by a spinning testicle, and that only female doctors were available.
But anyway, apparently that alone was enough at the time to consider the film to have sufficient story and substance. The veterinary scenes are indeed quite convincing, and so is Van de Ven. Let that be enough.
