In the mind of Stanley Merse, murder always plays the leading role. A crime novelist at heart, Stanley is regularly plagued by nightmares and violent fantasies, especially about Harry Jenson, the main character in his most recent book. To come to terms with himself again, he and a few hikers go into the forests of New Zealand. The first morning, one of the group is found dead. Stanley has blood on his hands. Could he be the culprit? He discovers that reality and his fantasy are frighteningly intertwined.
