Phew, that wasn't good. Bad acting and a very simple story.

A constantly blaring Topher Grace (Winston) really put my nerves to the test.

I had the idea beforehand that it might be something like Midnight Run.

Midnight Run (Film, 1988)

No way.....

In between, obvious. Even with a small budget. Especially some background images didn't look good. Like that plane threatening to crash and the image moving back and forth. That was already done a lot better 30 years ago in the opening scene of Goldeneye.

Well, potentially fine and the direction is okay and you constantly have a slight feeling of tension. But the script is also a bit weak, just like how some roles are written to let Wahlberg escape again and again. And then also just the few seconds just before landing of course. Yeah, I can't do much with that. That doesn't create tension but irritation.

I also had the idea that Gibson was holding back a bit and that it was only during the landing (way over the top) and the clumsy crash of Wahlbergthat he finally lets go and actually manages to enjoy himself. 2.5*.

Thriller film that regularly makes you wonder how on earth a director like Mel Gibson came up with this story. Flight Risk is a mix of all kinds of genres that do not go together at all. As a thriller, the comedy gets in the way too much and as a comedy there is simply not enough material to remain effective. As a drama film, the whole thing is then too predictable and familiar territory. A few rare, almost completely random (humor) moments are infectious, but on the other hand make the viewer forget that the characters have to be in danger. Furthermore, the special effects are not great and the film absolutely fails in the basics, but the interaction between the characters is fortunately still entertaining. Furthermore, it all certainly does not last long and Mark Wahlberg is often very funny, but hopefully Gibson himself also sees that this project was a mistake.
