Disappointing thriller in which a lawyer defends a suspect he is almost certain is guilty. The film opens with a good court scene, but then quickly deteriorates. The relationships between the characters are unbelievable. Kevin Bacon's character also doesn't get off the ground at all, which quickly makes it no longer interesting.

On the one hand, I think there is a nice 80s atmosphere here, but that is purely nostalgic. Furthermore, I don't think it's a particularly good film. For example, I thought Gary Oldman's acting was very exaggerated. For example, when he finds that body in the park and then runs to that house. I can name a few scenes in which I think he reacts just a little too much. I didn't think Kevin Bacon was particularly chilling, even though his character should be. The film itself is a good watch because I was never bored for a moment, but still...

Interesting thriller that examines law and morality, and the tension between the two. There are two strong actors at work with Gary Oldman and Kevin Bacon. Bacon comes across as freaky, but that may be the point of his character, who has a strong Freudian/Hitchcockian underlay with a mother complex. A distant descendant of Bates. Although it is not all so subtle. As a viewer, you can also strongly suspect that Bacon has homosexual feelings for Oldman. That fits in with the picture of a mother-hater, misogynist, and -murderer. Towards the end it becomes more difficult to maintain the credibility of the plot. It then becomes more entertaining than exciting. Of course you could put on a sign that Bacon would eventually be killed by the female detective. And yet that ends the story - and Bacon - nicely.
