The Dog Stars plot

Humanity has been nearly completely wiped out by a virus. Those who survive are hunted down by looters. The pilot Hig is immune to the disease, but his wife, among others, succumbed to it. Hig lives with his dog in a hangar at an abandoned airport and attempts to lead a normal life by fishing. Through a radio transmission, he comes into contact with another person, after which Hig harbors hope for a better life.
