Nice oldie, not a high flyer but certainly not bad either, the one who plays the alien does a good job and plays the emotionless character very well.
The duration is short and that is fine in this case.

Not of This Earth is an early film by Roger Corman. It centers on an alien presence that needs human blood to save his race from extinction. The alien calls himself Mr. Johnson. He is always dressed neatly in a suit and always wears sunglasses to hide his alien eyes. He bears a resemblance to A Man in Black.
Although Mr. Johnson, unlike most sci-fi films from the 1950s, has slightly different motives for eliminating people, the story unfolds similarly. A cat-and-mouse game develops between humans and threats. The film eschews spectacular effects and builds suspense by emphasizing Mr. Johnson's unusual behavior and his quirky dialogue.
Paul Birch plays Mr. Johnson, and his performance creates an unpleasant vibe. This contributes to the film's dark atmosphere. At times, it even feels like you're in a film noir rather than a low-budget sci-fi vehicle. That illusion lasts only briefly, because when you're suddenly confronted with a silly, laugh-out-loud umbrella monster scene, the dark atmosphere vanishes. Then you realize again that Not of This Earth is, after all, a true B-movie.
The 67-minute running time is short enough to avoid boredom. It shouldn't have been much longer. Aside from a dark atmosphere and a perfectly good antagonist, the film has little to offer. No appealing effects. No striking settings. No particularly surprising story. No impressive characters. Except for Mr. Johnson, that is.
