Craig Bakus is the mastermind behind the Roebling Clipper, the first spaceship that allows passengers to make a return flight to the moon in a few hours. A motley crew of prominent figures is on board for the first flight. Among them is the man who was once Craig's best friend: Don Wincroft, scientific adviser to the president and now married to Craig's ex Cheryl. The flight seems to be going well, but when leaving the atmosphere the ship is suddenly hit by a high dose of solar radiation that causes the engines to run wild. From that moment on, the Clipper shoots towards the moon with enormous speed. Attempts to solve the problem from Earth are to no avail. It soon becomes clear that disaster is imminent. Everything indicates that the Clipper will soon be catapulted directly towards the sun. And that would not only mean the end of the ship, but also of all life on Earth...
