Avalon: Beyond the Abyss plot

The unexplained destruction of an island in the Gulf of Mexico sparks a black tide of deadly plankton that could threaten all life on Earth. Hundreds have already died as John Alden (Parker Stevenson) and his team of free-spirited experts at the ABYSS Oceanographic Institute embark on their desperate battle against an unimaginable ecological disaster. Perhaps the key to the solution lies not in modern science, but in mysterious paintings in a submarine cave. Or in the myth about a Mayan god who rises from the deep to express his wrath against humanity. But time is running out and John Alden has no choice but to descend into the deep ocean trench alone. There he comes face to face with the unthinkable...
