When cyborgs are more than just robots and really part of the daily life of many families, there is a real chance that they are a full member of the family, just like pets. You can of course invent all kinds of scenarios around abuse and such, but Kogonada keeps far away from this.
He created a warm, honest film in which humanity and integrity are central. Yang is a house robot who, in addition to everyday tasks, also has to take care of Mika's upbringing and cultural background. It is an aesthetic film with excellent use of color and editing. Emotions and interpersonal contacts are central and you also see Yang as a human rather than a robot.
Great acting too. Farrell has already proven that he can add value to these kinds of dramas, but the performances by Turner-Smith, H. Min and Tsjandrawidjaja were also authentic.

Excellent film about a family with an adopted daughter and a robot with artificial intelligence. The picture of the future outlined here is subtle. An original and soothing film that is sometimes a bit vague / floaty, but beautiful. Some good existential dialogues and the opening credits are nice too.
