A Woman in Winter plot

Scottish physics professor Michael Seraph is a specialist in quantum astronomy. Like a madman, he tries to prove that the universe is "schizophrenic"; there are parallel versions of our world and we can move through different timelines. His boss supports him, but his colleagues just think he's weird. When Michael meets the beautiful Frenchwoman Caroline, his life begins to prove his theory. As they grow closer, Michael reveals to her his most intimate thoughts and dreams. Caroline remains largely a mystery. The mystery deepens when Michael learns from a doctor that he once treated a much older Caroline. That the object of his affection has a habit of appearing and disappearing suddenly does not make things any easier.
