Stolen Love plot

17-year-old Joan Hastings, who grows up with her two unmarried aunts and is controlled by them, has never had a boyfriend. This seems to change when she meets the handsome auto mechanic Bill. But their budding romance ends prematurely under the heavy pressure of both arrogant aunts. Tired of being treated like this, Joan runs away from home and heads to San Francisco, where she becomes a successful model with the help of wealthy Curtis Barstow. Joan assumes, however, that Barstow's interest in her is purely platonic.
