To recover from burnout, Amy [Claudia Restrepo] and her fiancé Max [Ben Coleman] seek peace in the valley town of Jackson Hole in Wyoming. Amy takes a fishing course with instructor Loren [Derrick Joseph DeBlasis] alone when Max has to prepare for a suddenly scheduled work meeting. Amy and Loren find a listening ear in each other and a special friendship develops between the two. The acting of Restrepo and DeBlasis is just as authentic as the unaffected dialogues, which gradually reveal the true nature of the main characters. Most remarkable are the many interim remarks, cautious jokes and the equally clumsy and disarming reactions to a surprising revelation. It is a bit slow and it is not very compelling, but those who like a relaxed romantic drama will get their money's worth here.

A new environment, paired with new people, makes you look at yourself extra sharply. Peak Season is about (re)discovering yourself and your goals and it is especially the story that inspires. Add to that the breathtaking images of Jackson, Wyoming and the surrounding area, a captivating cast, an incredibly pleasant soundtrack and you are set.

Pleasant film. But it also feels a bit like a missed opportunity. But perhaps the makers don't want to do any more. A small film about love, what you feel and what you don't feel. An apparent mismatch between a couple getting married, one addicted to his work, seemingly losing sight of what truly matters in life. And the other seeing her perspective change, or perhaps it already had and was struggling with it. Because of this, she makes room for another person, but above all for a different viewpoint on life, forms a friendship, and develops serious feelings for a seasonal worker in beautiful Wyoming. This Wyoming serving as the beautiful backdrop for a budding romance. Oh well, it’s all nothing special. The camerawork and editing look a bit messy, but I think that’s mainly a matter of budget. The actors, unknown to me, do an okay job. The music is pleasant, just like the entire film.
