Fleeing from her many admirers, Countess Mariza turns her back on Bucharest and returns to her family home after a long absence. Here the new manager Michael has taken the reins and wants to get the property back on track. And when even Dragomir, the resident of the neighboring estate, makes a marriage proposal, she finally has had enough and spreads the rumor that she is engaged to a certain Koloman Zupan. She is of the opinion that this name only exists in the operetta 'The Gypsy Baron'. But actually Koloman Zupan is a beggar king in Vienna...
