Shanghai, China, November 1, 1941. Kay Murdock walks into the 'Dixie Bar' and asks the bartender for a letter, which is addressed to Captain Karl Larsen. Kay is referred to one Roy Bonnell, the manager of the Dixie Bar and a gambling house. Roy refuses to hand Kay the letter, whereupon she steals the letter. Roy later finds the letter, which turns out to be encrypted. Kay reveals that she is a British Secret Service agent. Roy turns out to be on the run from the American justice and he tells that his real name is James Carmichael. James goes on to say that he wants to present this encrypted letter to the highest bidder. When James approaches the Japanese, they arrest him because the coded letter contains information about the impending Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. But James manages to escape.
