John Nordley is the captain of a charter boat on the British seacoast. Nordley's problem is that he tends to ignore his precepts. When a passenger on board is murdered, he must try to prove his innocence. Once the mystery of the murder is unraveled, the story jumps back to the end of World War II and a storehouse of a precious diamond that has suddenly disappeared. Does the disappearance have anything to do with the passenger's death?
