Zar und Zimmermann plot

Tsar Peter the Great stays incognito in Zaandam to learn the ship carpentry trade. Also working at the yard is a Russian deserter, Peter Iwanov. Soon the rumor that the Russian tsar is staying in the town gets through to the mayor, who wants to organize a large-scale tribute. However, he is mistaken about the person: he thinks that the deserter is the Tsar. After many complications, the tsar returns to Russia and Peter Iwanov escapes his sentence for desertion and gets his beloved Marie, the mayor's daughter, as a bride.
