Torch Singer plot
"SHE CARRIES A "TORCH" IN THE HOT SPOTS OF BROADWAY! The worst woman in New York...singing the best love songs!"
Sally Trent has become a single mother. She cannot take care of her daughter and therefore gives her baby away for adoption. The father, Michael Gardner, leaves for China, but he knows nothing about his daughter's adoption. Sally hasn't told Michael either, because she doesn't expect him to return. Sally then accepts a job as a nightclub singer under the pseudonym 'Mimi Benton'. 'Mimi' is soon known in New York for her excessive drinking and exuberant sex life. At a certain point, Sally becomes homesick for her daughter and she participates in a children's radio program as the singing and reading 'Aunt Jenny'. In this way she hopes to find her daughter and eventually her daughter's father.
