Salome plot
Captain Narraboth sings about the beauty of Princess Salome, much to the chagrin of a page who has a crush on Narraboth herself, but ignores him. Then Salome herself appears, who has no eyes for Narraboth until she hears a voice from the dungeon denouncing King Herod and his wife Herodias. She is curious and asks Narraboth who that is. He tells her that it is the prophet Johanaan, who was locked in the dungeon by her stepfather. She flatters Narraboth and asks to get him out of the dungeon; she wants to see him. Narraboth can't resist and has Johanaan taken out of the dungeon. However, he refuses to speak to her or even look at her and curses Herod and his family. When he is taken back to the dungeon, Salome has no other thoughts than Johanaan and Narraboth commits suicide out of desperation. Then Herod asks her to dance for him, but she refuses. He promises to give her everything and in the end she agrees. She dances the dance of the seven veils, and when she is done, she asks as a reward to Herod's horror Johanan's head on a silver platter...
