Idomeneo plot

When King Idomeneo, along with many other kings, has defeated Troy, Troy's protector, the sea god Poseidon, is enraged. Poseidon storms the sea and drives Idomeneo's ship into a hurricane. To stop the sea god, Idemeneo promises to sacrifice to him the first one he encounters on land. The storm subsides and Poseidon leaves Idomeneo alone. Only the king does not yet know that he will be found on the beach by his own son Idamantes.
