Director Trey Edward Shults impresses with his thriller elements and shows a number of remarkably chilling scenes within a whole that you would not immediately expect. In terms of visual images, Hurry Up Tomorrow scores a more than sufficient, with attention to striking camera work and eye-catching lighting. Unfortunately, the substantive story is considerably less interesting, with a finale that actually goes on for too long and two characters that are not sufficiently developed. In principle, the entire first half is interchangeable and does not justify itself sufficiently, but enough quality is nevertheless delivered for a sufficient.

Mediocre drama with some thriller elements. The story is simple. The execution is not so successful. The film is slow and vacillates between a drama and a half-baked thriller. No idea what Shults wants to achieve with this. In any case, not a successful mix of genres. The Weeknd is also searching in the whole. Visually, the film is strong, with beautiful camera work and lighting. The soundtrack is weak with some easily scored old songs by the lead actor. 2.5.

Painful failure, this deadly dull ego trip by Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd. As an actor he falls hopelessly short, although that is not really noticeable here because the film around him is so lousy that the attention is effectively diverted from him. The script is a mess, as is the direction by Trey Edward Shults. Halfway through I woke up briefly when the film actually took a trip towards horror, but after that I could sleep peacefully. Especially the lackluster finale seems to have no end.
