Curious.

With these kinds of films I always wonder what the makers had in mind when they look back at the end result. I can't imagine anyone thinking that something like this is going to really impress the audience. Cube 2 wasn't a brilliant piece of film by this name either, but it was considerably better than While We Sleep.

Director Sekula is a cinematographer by profession, but the cinematography of this film was handled by someone else. Perhaps Sekula would have been better off taking over the baton herself, because the film really doesn't look good. Only the images through the aquarium (and those are only two shots) look meritorious, the rest is boring and stripped of creativity. Also the content, by the way. They come up with a third-hand version of The Exorcist, but then more hurried and creaky.

I have to say that I secretly found the finale quite comical, but that's not something the film itself seems to be aiming for. That thing with the demon voice and the kid who goes down the stairs possessed for example. You just can't really make it up and yet Sekula bets double and thick on moments like this. It is so incredibly silly that you spontaneously burst into laughter, but that makes the finale of the film a lot more interesting than the build-up. Just my rating for that. The acting is of course sad, although Trevena as Andrey is still trying to put something down. I hope Sekula doesn't look back on this project with pride.
