Phew, what a long sit. No, this movie didn't interest me at all. It is about a witch who travels to the future and is chased by a witch hunter. Lots of bullshit about satanic scriptures and the end of the world and all that. Julian Sands as the Warlock is still good, but otherwise the actors hardly know how to captivate. For some, this film may have a nostalgic value. It's such a typical 80's movie. He was of no value to me.

A film that I have always liked and have seen several times. Probably because the original idea has always appealed to me (see description).

Admittedly, it looks less great in 2011 than it did 20 years ago and the acting isn't great, but it remains a fascinating film until the end. And Julian Sands (the warlock) is just a very suitable appearance for his role as a male witch. Pretty gruesome too but cool what he's up to

I already know that I will watch it again in a few years

3.5 stars

Youth sentiment...

For me it has been at least 20 years since I first (partially) saw the film. Later seen in its entirety, but that is already the end of the last century. A revision after such a long time is therefore a risk, because your taste develops over the years, but Warlock remains solid as a rock. It's still a solid occult horror road trip, now with cult status.

The film is of course no longer scary; before that, many effects are outdated and the tone now comes across as a bit light-hearted. There are still quite a few effective kills, especially in the beginning. What follows is an entertaining cat and mouse game between warlock (Julian Sands) and the warlock fighter with his female sidekick. Sands in particular is very creepy at times.

Furthermore, the film should mainly have the atmosphere; a good mix of the 80s, supplemented with occult ingredients from the 70s. Warlock is also an odd one out, from a time when the horror landscape was completely dominated by slashers. Maybe that's why the film has always stayed with me so well. The film is entertaining right up to the climax.

3.5* remain standing.
