After her mother's death, Evelyn Jackson [Nathalie Emmanuel] uses DNA testing to make contact with a British millionaire family related to her grandmother. Upon her introduction to the innocent-looking Oliver [Hugh Skinner], Evelyn receives an invitation to a wedding party in England. An ideal opportunity to finally visit England and the opportunity to become part of a new family. The party takes place at the house of Walter [Thomas Doherty], whose family name spells mischief (and betrays how bad things are). From that moment on it is predictable. Thompson's stylish directing and the enthusiastic playing of Emmanuel and Doherty keep things going.

Fortunately, no trailer for this film has been seen so the mystery and horrific secrets surrounding the wealthy family can continue for a while, even though there are suspected directions in which the film wants to go. Well-constructed story with a solid cast combined with an appropriately beautiful location and atmospheric backgrounds. Nathalie Emmanuel plays her role well and Thomas Doherty as De Ville also comes across convincingly. But the rest of the cast also contributes. Sean Pertwee as butler always manages to make you feel uncomfortable and the two bridesmaids Alana Boden and Stephanie Corneliussen have some cool scenes such as the spa scene and the fight. The climax where the effect is predictable given the earlier reference in the film is well executed and has a satisfying ending. 7/10

Pretty okay. Visually nice with fine editing and sometimes nice ideas how to go from one shot to the next. Also played very well by the lead actress, although I wonder why all the others in these kind of movies act like some kind of creeps. Yes, they are in the end, but by acting like that you put it too much on top. The beginning has cheap jump scares now and then, but once it becomes clear which way this is going and we are dealing with vampires , there will be more gore and less scare, I found that more fun. The beginning drags just too much for that matter. Little depth further and sometimes a bit too simple but all in all reasonable viewing.

I also read some comments that this is a kind of Get Out because of the nobility's view of other races and cultures. In a way I understand that view, but I think the old nobility looks down on everyone who has less, including the white peasant. To that extent this is not a film about racism but just old money that has little to do with those who do not belong to Our Kind of People. 3.0*.
