The Girl Who Got Away plot
Masena, New York, 1998. A decade of terror ends with the capture of Elizabeth Caulfield, a woman who kidnapped five young girls and pretended to be her own. Only one girl, Christina Bowden, managed to escape Caulfield alive, the other four were found buried behind Caulfield's dilapidated house. Twenty years later, Caulfield has escaped prison and embarks on a deadly chase to finish what she started.

Director Michael Morrissey builds an intriguing mystery that doesn't need much time to establish itself. The opening is effective, and the atmosphere is certainly impressive; unfortunately, the resolution is far less satisfying. Morrissey also cares deeply about his main characters and devotes considerable time to their development, but as a viewer, I personally couldn't fathom why Lexi Johnson was so "sweet" with a clearly troubled teenager. It's quite frustrating, and the situation doesn't gain any credibility, but if the outcome isn't exactly overflowing with suspense, The Girl Who Got Away ends on a rather disappointing note.
