In the context of the popular remake, another look at the original. Back to Derry, back to the kids in the small American village in the 1950s who fought Pennywise the clown together. Stephen King is a master at creating such atmospheric towns with an emphasis on the younger residents in particular. Just look at Silver Bullet and Stand by Me. Sometimes the comparison with Roald Dahl strikes me. Also such a person who time and again can create a specific atmosphere and has influenced generations with his literally fantastic stories.

It should be clear that this film adaptation is by no means a masterpiece in terms of cinematography. In terms of acting, there is still something to criticize in some cases. So why has it become a classic? With relatively minimal resources, the film has succeeded in creating an icon in the person of Pennywise, who is still scary and just played very well. Truly a real horror clown. The Losersclub formed by the group of children also exudes a kind of security that still has appeal. At least on me. Nostalgia has been a big factor in the film's success over the years.

But admittedly, it sometimes seems like a children's film and I can imagine that someone who now sees this film for the first time has a different opinion. For them there is the remake.

Pennywise lives on 27 years after the release of the original. An original about a clown who claims new victims every 27 years. One of the members of the Losersclub was played by Jonathan Brandis. He passed away in 2003 at the age of 27.

Somewhat colored by nostalgia I give this movie 4 balloons......

For me a film classic (OK, miniseries, whatever, fantastic format for Stephen King adaptations by the way) that I enjoyed twice even though this was 10 and 25 years ago respectively. Many unforgettable scenes: the picture book, buh-buh Billy boy, the paper boat, the fortune cookies, the completely shocked wife of the adult Billy and the racing on the bike afterwards. And the great Tim Curry. Plus all that without CGI crap. Yes, that spider is too fake. But that zombie from the lake, Curry's makeup, just really good.

The first part is strong, the second part is very bad except for the scene of Bev in her parental home. Still, Pennywise remains one of the greatest horror icons ever!
