Average British thriller. In other words: colorless. It's a shame that there wasn't more focus on the body horror aspect instead of that eternal whining about the how and what now?! That zombie-like state of mind in which the victims end up had quite some potential and it's definitely not badly shot.

Hugely underrated British masterpiece!

The Facility has a fairly calm build-up, but the almost documentary-like way of filming keeps you captivated. After 20 minutes, which fly by, you have finally only been watching 7 people who take turns getting an injection. Nothing special, but somehow your attention is still there.

A few hours after the injections, the flames flare up. Several test subjects experience strange side effects, which eventually lead to them becoming rabid and starting to kill. The tension is unprecedented at times. Ian Clark made optimal use of the dark corridors in the abandoned hospital and the atmosphere is delicious. Don't expect a gore fest, although there are some very nice make-up effects. The Facility focuses more on atmosphere and pure tension.

Much of this tension is created by sound. By means of screaming people or other echoing sounds in the dark, silent corridors, the tension is often wonderfully built up. In addition, there are also a few great jump scares (The scene with the flashing camera ).

Another plus is the realistic characters. You really have the idea that you are watching ''real'' people who are going through this. This is partly due to the absolutely excellent acting of the actors. Especially Steve Evets as Morty was cool to see.

We should just ignore that ''Based on Real Events'' I suppose? I can't find anything on the internet about these kinds of ''experiments'' that go wrong.

Anyway, a top piece of work that is terribly underrated here on MM as well as on IMDB.

Wasn't an Oscar winner, but despite the very bad reviews I still thought it was a nice weekend movie...
