The Devil Rides Out plot
"The beauty of woman . . . the demon of darkness . . . the unholy of union"
Nicholas, the Duke of Richleau, welcomes his old friend Rex Van Ryn to visit Simon Aron, the son of a deceased friend. Their unannounced visit, however, is very inconvenient for the young man; he already has a visit from twelve mysterious persons. Nicholas, himself also well versed in black magic, soon discovers that Simon has fallen into the clutches of the satanic cult. This cult is led by the evil Mocata, who possesses impressive powers. It is not long before they are all engaged in a battle between good and evil.

A pretty atmospheric film that was almost killed with a rather disappointing ending. Why do these kinds of movies always have to end with a happy ending ? Clearly could have been different. Visually, it all looked fine - that must be said - although it was clear that we were dealing with a sixties horror film. By the way, that Tenith looked quite charming in her twenties outfit. Also nice are the chases with those old vehicles and excellent acting by Christoffer Lee.
This is the first Fisher video I've watched by the way. You should also see his 1958 film Dracula.

The milestone of 666 votes must of course be celebrated with an appropriate film and The Devil Rides Out certainly did not disappoint me.
Despite its age, it is still an amusing horror film. The story is pretty simple, but there's enough occult madness in it to keep it amusing. Since the visual effects clearly haven't stood the test of time, it's laughable rather than scary. That scene with the dark man in his orange knickers? 
Fortunately, at least it doesn't come at the expense of entertainment value. It is true that the film would not have been half as good without Christopher Lee. What a phenomenon. The rest isn't bad, but Lee counts it to the next level with his charisma. Even the most ridiculous asshole sounds convincing when it comes out of his mouth.
Even though I liked this Hammer film, it doesn't immediately leave me wanting more. A small 3.5 * is in place.
